Great Sankey homeowner awarded £3,360 after roofing prosecution

The council says a deposit was paid for work that was never carried out.

A Great Sankey resident has been awarded £3,360 compensation following a Trading Standards investigation into a roofing deposit.

Warrington Council says Mark Marsden, trading as MM1st Roofing, was sentenced at Warrington Magistrates’ Court on 21 October. He admitted unfair commercial practices, Companies Act and money laundering offences.

The homeowner paid £3,500 for materials but no work followed. Investigators found £3,360 had been transferred to Marsden’s partner’s account and used for living expenses.

His solicitor said he had intended to complete the work but prioritised caring for an unwell relative. The court also ordered £4,500 prosecution costs and £280 covering the fine and victim surcharge. The homeowner remains anonymous.
