A clear view
of your privacy.
Reading a story, saving it for later and sending a private tip are different things. Here is how this website handles each.
Reading the website.
This website has no adverts or advertising trackers. Its own pages do not use third-party audience analytics. Hosting and sign-in services still process information needed to deliver the site, protect it and authenticate an account; their own policies apply.
Some articles may display credited images from an external source. Opening an original source, licence or travel service takes you to that provider’s website, where its privacy practices apply.
Saving a story.
The reading list uses your browser’s local storage to keep article identifiers on the device you are using. It is not sent to the newsroom and does not sync to other devices. Remove a story using its bookmark button, or clear this site’s browser storage to remove the list.
Sending a story or correction.
You sign in before sending a contribution. The submission record includes your account identifier, the text and links you provide, your chosen credit preference, your consent and the time it was submitted. It also includes a name or contact email if you choose to supply them.
Submissions are held privately for checking, editorial review and any necessary follow-up. They are accessible to you and authorised newsroom editors. Your contact email is not published. If you choose an anonymous public credit, your name stays out of the published story; the newsroom can still associate the contribution with your signed-in account.
Do not include sensitive personal information about yourself or other people unless it is essential to understanding the tip. This form is not a secure whistleblowing service.
Joining the community network.
A community-correspondent application stores your signed-in account identifier and email, chosen display name, patch, introduction, local connection, interests and any first-story idea. It also records your age confirmation, application consent, optional public-profile consent, review status and timestamps. Authorised editors use these details to assess the application; joining does not subscribe you to marketing.
Your application and email stay private. If you separately choose a public profile, only your display name, patch and short introduction can appear, after an editor approves your application. An application does not automatically create a profile, reporter credential or published story.
You can withdraw from the community network while signed in. Withdrawal removes your public profile and erases your application text and email from the active application record. Limited identifiers, timestamps and request records remain to track the withdrawal and prevent an old request from recreating erased details. Story submissions are separate; use their own withdrawal controls if you also want to withdraw a story.
Withdrawing a contribution.
Visit your submissions while signed in and choose Withdraw. This removes the submitted text and private contact details from the active contribution record. A limited operational record remains so the withdrawal can be tracked.
Withdrawal does not automatically erase a report that has already been published. A linked report is flagged for editorial review and may need a correction, a change or removal. You can explain a request through the correction form.
Questions about your information.
Use the signed-in correction form to identify the contribution or article and explain what needs attention. Include only the information needed to locate and understand your request.
