Warrington Council proposes increasing maximum council tax support from 78% to 86.5% for the lowest-income working-age households. That would lower the minimum contribution from 22% to 13.5%.

The proposed scheme would start on 1 April 2027. The council also wants to reduce repeated bill changes caused by small fluctuations in Universal Credit. Pension-age applicants would remain under the national scheme.

Residents can read the proposals and respond through the council’s consultation page until 5pm on 19 November 2026. These are proposals, not an adopted change; individual entitlement has not been assessed here.
